To look at the World Wide Web, you need a connection to the Internet and a Web browser like Internet Explorer.
There are many ways to connect to the Internet. People who surf the Web from home often use a "dial-up connection". This set-up uses hardware called a "modem" and a regular telephone line. People in schools and offices often use "network connections" to access the Internet.
If you are using a network connection, looking at the Web is as easy as opening your Web browser. To open the Internet Explorer browser:
1. Double-click the Internet Explorer icon on your Windows® desktop. The Internet Explorer browser window will open.
2. Internet Explorer will connect to the Internet and load a Web page into its main viewing area.
